We also compared the reading apps head-to-head on the same book — page turns, highlights, dictionary — and measured how far Rakuten ecosystem points (SPU, shopping marathons) move the needle.

Kobo's real edge is Rakuten-ecosystem integration — the versatility, absent from Kindle, of spending earned points on things other than books.

Can I read Kindle books on Rakuten Kobo?
No. Ebooks are DRM-protected, so you can't read books bought on one store in another. Books bought on Kobo are read in the Kobo app.
Do I keep my books after changing phones?
Yes. Log in with the same Rakuten ID and re-download owned books to the new device; bookmarks and highlights sync too.
