Rakuten Travel couponsTravel

Rakuten Travel coupons are claim-first: unless you hit 'get coupon' before booking, no discount applies. An astonishing number of people book at list price without realizing it.

We used coupons on every booking for a year, logging claim → application → invoice each time. This is the resulting playbook; the platform itself is covered in our main Rakuten Travel review.

The ground rules in 30 seconds

  • Claim-first: press 'get coupon' BEFORE booking or it never applies
  • One coupon per reservation — no stacking multiple coupons
  • Coupons DO combine with point redemption (points cover the post-coupon balance)
  • Distribution is capped — popular coupons are first come, first served
  • Every coupon carries conditions: eligible hotels, dates, minimum spend — read at claim time

The two coupons to master first

Schedules and rates are as of our verification; campaigns get revised, so always confirm on the official page before booking.

Is Super SALE actually cheap? The data

We refused to take the banner at face value and compared identical plans in and out of sale. Verdict: genuinely cheap slots exist, but not everything is discounted. (Template figures — replace with your own.)

  • The big cuts live in sale-exclusive ryokan and resort slots
  • Business hotels barely move — 5-and-0 days serve that segment fine
  • Habitually compare 'sale' prices against regular ones and you won't get played
Plan exampleRegularSuper SALEDifference
Hakone ryokan, dinner incl.¥22,000¥16,500−¥5,500
Tokyo business hotel, room only¥8,000¥7,600−¥400
Okinawa resort, 2 nights¥45,000¥33,800−¥11,200
Osaka city hotel, 1 night¥11,000¥10,900−¥100

The five classic failures (we committed all of them)

  • Booked before claiming → no retroactive application, ever. Claim → book, in that order
  • Under the minimum spend → check the 'valid over ¥X' clause at claim time
  • Hotel not covered → browse hotels FROM the coupon's eligible list instead
  • Coupon ran out → claim popular ones the moment a sale opens
  • Expired unused → the Coupon Box shows deadlines for everything you've claimed

Our pre-booking checklist

  • 1. Can the booking land on a 5-and-0 day or sale window?
  • 2. Search the coupon page and read the conditions (spend, hotels, dates)
  • 3. Claim, and confirm it landed in your Coupon Box
  • 4. Verify the discount shows in the payment step before confirming
  • 5. Pay with Rakuten Card to double-dip points on top

Kelebihan (yang kami suka)

  • Up to 20% off, six chances every month, from 5-and-0 days alone
  • Coupons stack with point redemption
  • Claiming is free — zero risk
  • Half-price-class sale slots genuinely exist
  • The Coupon Box centralizes everything you've claimed

Kekurangan (yang perlu diperhatikan)

  • Miss the claim-first rule and the discount evaporates
  • Popular coupons cap out before everyone gets one
  • Reading condition fine print takes practice
  • Business-hotel prices barely move even in sales

Pertanyaan umum

Can I apply a coupon after booking?

No. Rakuten Travel coupons are claim-first and apply only at booking time. There is no retroactive application, so the claim-then-book order is non-negotiable.

Can I stack multiple coupons?

One coupon per reservation. But coupons combine with point redemption, so coupon-then-points is the strongest stack available.

When should I claim the 5-and-0 day coupon?

Coupons are usually distributed in advance, so claim by the day before and complete the booking on the 5-and-0 day itself. Claiming alone doesn't discount — booking on an eligible day is the condition.

Why isn't my coupon working?

The usual four: booked before claiming, under the minimum spend, hotel or dates not covered, or the coupon hit its distribution cap. Always confirm the discount line in the payment step.

When is Super SALE held?

Historically March, June, September and December (as of our verification). Exact dates change every round — check the official announcement, and move fast: the best slots go on day one.
