It flips by property and date. In our year of records, Rakuten Travel won when we could hit 5-and-0 days, while Jalan won repeatedly on onsen ryokans. Five minutes comparing both is the only reliable answer.
Which earns points faster?
Jalan's base rate (~2%) beats Rakuten Travel's (1%+), but Rakuten's sale-day multipliers plus Rakuten Card double-dipping flip the total for ecosystem users.
Why do prices differ for the same hotel?
Each site issues its own coupons, and properties tune their plans per channel. Identical sticker prices can hide a several-thousand-yen gap in effective price.
Should I keep accounts on both?
Yes — both are free, and you can browse without logging in. Only the site you book on needs a login, so comparison costs nothing.
Do cancellation rules differ?
No meaningful difference — cancellation fees are set by each property, so the same hotel carries near-identical policies on both sites. Always read the plan's policy before booking.
